Feel Good Movie Night

Wednesday 24 May 2017

Let's face it, there's nothing better than a movie night or a box set binge with an array of sweet treats. Whether you're having a night in on your own or you have a few friends round, it's a nice change from the usual pre drinks and dancing till you can't stand anymore. I've said it before, but it's always nice to have a break from social media, put your phone and laptop down for a while and just enjoy watching something without the distraction. If it's a me time night or a girls night in *HMV have you covered.

I really enjoy having snug movie nights on my own. I basically just roll my self up like a burrito with a blanket, have snacks close by, pop the fairy lights on and I'm good to go. My sister and I have actually started to have movie nights together every now and then as we don't live together anymore, so we kinda like each other now. She also embraces the blanket burrito life with me. But we do have different tastes in movies, anything singing and dancing will not be shown in her home, I on the other hand will memorise every show stopper and sing along, like all the cool kids do.

I've put together a little list of my absolute favourite watches for when I need a little pick me up, so here we go;

La La Land - I completely and utterly fell in love with this movie when I first saw it in cinemas. An Actress and Jazz Musician unexpectedly form a bond after bumping into each other a few times, they follow each others journeys of pursuing Hollywood dreams while finding themselves and each other. It's brilliantly vibrant and full of love, hope and dreams. That just sounds like a feel good movie right? It's only just been released on DVD so I snatched it up as quick as I could.

Moana - Like a Disney film wasn't going to make the list?! This was a sister date night film, and it's magical. Moana vows to fulfil her heroic destiny and save her people. Setting sail on her own, travelling to different islands till she meets demi-god Maui and convinces him to join her, on her quest to find the mythical island, that holds the key to completing her mission and saving her people. I mean, this is modern day Pocahontas for me, and that's saying a lot.

Pitch Perfect 1 & 2 - I'm all for anything full of singing, dancing and full on cheese. I was always going to love these movies. It all started with an all-girl singing group, a very strict and tamed group. Which quickly changed when they had to regroup and some very individual members joined which completely reformed the Bellas. There's friendship building, arguments, singing competitions and a lot of people finding themselves. I loved that the first movie ended with it just starting to go right for them, which only meant that the second film would be more about the success and the more established Bellas. I personally can't wait to see what the third Pitch Perfect is going to be like!

Gossip Girl - Who doesn't love a box set binge? and who doesn't love Gossip Girl. And it's mainly based around an anonymous blogger, right up my street. All about the young socialites of the Upper East Side, revealing the secrets that nobody wanted revealed. You get to watch the cast grow up, fall in and out of love. Through the good times and the drama, all with some explosive moments. As much as there's a whole lot of drama, you can't help but think about what that kind of life would be like. I honestly got so sucked into the series that I actually forgot I had no idea who Gossip Girl really was. Oh, and Chuck Bass. Just watch it for him.

Beauty And The Beast You may notice there's not picture for this one. It's because I'm not talking the old classic, I'm talking new live action. I was in two minds about seeing it as Cinderella really killed live actions for me. But this one really was just as magical as the old classic animated one. An over entitled Prince gets cursed and turned into a beast. The only way to break the curse is by finding someone to love him while he is a hideous beast, and Belle does just that. There's singing, dancing furniture, angry villagers and attacks on the beast. But in true Disney style, a happy ending. I can't wait for it to arrive on DVD, I've already pre-ordered it.

So there's my round up of feel good movies, have any you would add?
